I started my career working with a neighborhood resiliency collaborative in a historic Black community facing major redevelopment and gentrification. Using my city planning and communications academic background, I helped local leaders advocate for tax policies, bring services to their neighborhoods, and create opportunities for youth. My proudest accomplishment in that role was opening and operating a free computer lab for the unhoused to learn and practice digital literacy. I helped secure funding from institutes of higher education and local banks and businesses.

At the same time, I moonlit as the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for a consulting start-up, taught spin classes at a Historically Black College and University, and occasionally drove for Lyft. My first duty station as a married woman taught me that companies do not see military spouses as sound investments. Changing course, I worked as a high-intensity interval training coach, where I practiced motivational public speaking, making hard things fun, and managing an online community.tion text goes here

In Hawaiʻi, I jumped into the role of Chief of Public Affairs at Tripler Army Medical Center, a 4,500+ employee hospital and the only military hospital in the state. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I was the sole employee for an office that was meant to be a team of five. I led a seven-outlet press conference when the first vaccines arrived on island, wrote groundbreaking articles for online publications, translated complex scientific topics into easily digestible information, produced more than 25 short- and long-form videos from idea to .mp4, and transformed the hospital’s social media feeds into reliable and up-to-date sources of information about COVID-19.

After experiencing intense burn-out, I opted for a position that could offer me a better work-life balance and joined Pang Communications, an award-winning public relations team, as Vice President. Here, I coordinated crisis communications protocol and press conferences for the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, managed the social media feed for a statewide nonprofit, developed cause marketing campaigns emphasizing cultural competency, and helped executive leaders exude confidence during media interviews and public speaking engagements.ription text goes here

I am now entering my third year running MW Strategies PR (and after a rambunctious toddler) all while moving from Hawaiʻi to Newport, RI, to Charlottesville, VA, and back to Hawaiʻi.

When not drafting newsletters or pitching reporters, you can find me tandem surfing at Canoes, catching sunset at  Puʻu O Kaimukī Park, picking up litter on Hunakai Beach, or hiking with my dog, Shaka.
